It is described, how, under the right conditions, a simple, economical, old time technique, i.e. trench wall footings, can benefit both client and contractor. Such footings are described, and the requiremnts for their proper design and construction are set forth. Precautions to be taken in their construction are listed. These relate to the design of non-reinforced concrete footings for walls and columns; anchor bolts; vertical straightness of trench sides; elimination of cold joints; leveling of ground; and leveling of grade by capping. Cost comparisons with standard wall and column footings show substantial savings (approximately 30%) for trench wall footings.
