A LOOK AT WHAT SOME STATES ARE DOING. PLAYING IT SAFE IN MINNESOTA

The Minnesota Department of Transportation, together with elementary school specialists, has developed educational materials focusing on work zone safety which would have applicability throughout the country. Called "Play it SAFE" (a workbook has been published), it is an interdisciplinary safety program prepared to be used as a supplement to what is presently being taught in the elementary grades. The booklet contains a package of curricular materials designed to help kindergarten through 6th grade teachers focus on work zone safety, and was created on the premise that exposure to the dangers of a highway work zone at an early age will ingrain long-standing cautionary habits.
