INTERSTATE REHAB CALLED BIGGEST JOB IN ILLINOIS

The most extensive and ambitious highway rebuilding project in Illinois history, the $425 million project to rehabilitate 7.5 miles of a 10-lane segment of Interstate 90/94, is briefly described. Work already completed on the project includes reconstruction of one bridge, widening the substructure of another, and replacing decks on 37 bridges. Future work includes reconstruction of the two center reversible express lanes, 4 in-bound lanes, and 4 out-bound lanes. It is noted that apart from managing traffic during construction, the biggest challenge of the project will be redesigning the terminals of the reversible lanes, which are being increased from two to seven terminals
