RUNOFF AND PEAK DISCHRGES USING GREEN-AMPT INFILTRATION MODEL

A study is reported which illustrates the advantages of the Green-Ampt infiltration model, and shows that by relating the model parameters to soil and cover characteristics the model's usefulnes has been improved. Modeling was done for 99 storms and for 12 watersheds in Montana and Wyoming. The study used the runoff volume distributions over time obtained from the Green-Ampt model to predict peak discharge with a unit hydrograph model. It also compared the runoff volumes and the peak discharges obtained from the Green-Ampt model to those obtained by using the SCS (Soil Conservation Service) curve number model and with observed volumes and peaks.
