AUSTRALIAN EXPERIENCE IN CONE PENETRATION TESTING: SURVEY RESULTS AS AT 30 APRIL, 1988

In late 1986 the Victorian Group of the Australian Geomechanics Society was asked to convene a National Panel on Cone Penetration Testing. The general intent of the National Committee was to assimilate current Australian experiences in cone testing, both in terms of current usage, interpretation and research. This report is the first of two papers: a subsequent report will summarize available literature in the field of cone penetration testing. A small working group of representatives from the University of Melbourne and the then Road Construction Authority (now Vic Roads) was established to plan the survey. It was agreed that the 1973 questionnaire should form the base from which the 1987 questionnaire would develop: changes in attitude to site investigation techniques in general and cone penetration testing in particular could thus be established.
