DETERMINATION OF THE TENSILE FORCE CAPACITY BETWEEN ASPHALT AND STEEL REINFORCEMENT BARS

BESTAEMNING AV DRAGKRAFTSKAPACITET MELLAN ASFALT OCH STAALARMERING

This report studies the adhesion of different steel reinforcement bars in asphalt samples. Adhesion tests with cross-bars simulating a reinforced mesh have been performed. The aim have been to find, if possible, a method to reduce or eliminate frost cracks. Asphalt mixture hab 12T including 6,6% bitumen was used. The tensile force tests were made in four laboratory experiments: 1) with one cross bar 2) with two crossbars placed on the same level but on different sides 3) and 4) with two cross bars placed on different levels and different side respectively on the same side. In every series of experiments 20 asphalt samples were used. Of these, five were stored in +20 deg c and slowly stressed, five were stored in +20 deg c and fast stressed, five were stored in -5 deg c and slowly stressed and five were stored in -5 deg c and fast stressed.
