STEEL ROAD BRIDGES AND FOOT BRIDGES. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

This standard applies to loadbearing structural members of steel road bridges and foot bridges. For railway bridges, the building regulations and operating instructions applicable to the railway system concerned must also be complied with. The standard is to be applied ony in conjunction with Standards DIN 18800 Part 1, March 1981 edition, and DIN 18800 Part 7, May 1983 edition (See IRRD 828499), as it only gives specifications differing from or supplementing these standards. Sections are provided on: a) materials (rolled steel, cast steel, cast iron wires, and wire rope); b) effective width of cross members (beams, and orthotropic deck plates with longitudinal stiffeners); c) design loads; d) analyses; e) design assumptions for structural members; f) design for connections; g) permissible stresses, maximum applied action effects; h) construction; i) protection against corrosion; and j) requirements to be met by contractors.
