HOUSTON MOVES FORWARD AGAIN
Houston's construction of the Harris County Toll System, and its devising of financing solutions for local traffic problems are described. The planning, design and construction process of the Sam Houston Tollway, the last part of that system is described. The layout and design using computer aided design and drafting are described, as well as traffic volume analyses, right-of-way limitations, and traffic requirements. As designed, the toll-collection system can be updated, and options such as automatic vehicle identification system and charge card systems may be added. Design and construction openings were scheduled in increments to maximize the revenue-producing potential of the facility.
