RESIDUAL STRAINS IN CALCAREOUS SAND DUE TO IRREGULAR CYCLIC LOADING

The paper presents a procedure for analyzing the behavior of calcareous sand under irregular cyclic loading. It is pointed out that the use of existing procedures for converting irregular stress time histories into equivalent uniform stress series may lead to erroneous predictions of the effects of the irregular cyclic loading. A procedure is presented that divides the irregular stress time history into a sequence of parcels of uniform loading which are then analyzed parcel by parcel. Examples are presented for determning the residual strains developed in multistage cyclic triaxial tests.
