THEORETICAL CONSIDERATION OF METAL-PLATE-CONNECTED WOOD-SPLICE JOINTS

The paper describes a theoretical model in an effort to study metal plate connection performance and to demonstrate the model through application. The theory of the model is presented and applications concerning splice connections subject to tension and to bending are shown and discussed. The model is based upon plane stress finite element analysis inorporating a modified Newton-Raphson iteration algorithm. It is possible to enhance the model to study other existing and proposed joint configurations and loading situations.
