PROPERTIES OF HIGH-VOLUME FLY ASH CONCRETES

The article describes the study of the properties of high-volume fly ash concretes incorporating 6 low-calcium Canadian fly ashes including two low-calcium (ASTM Type F) Canadian fly ash, one from Atlantic Canada, and one from western Canada. Preliminary work was also done on a Class F fly ash from eastern United States. Details are given of the materials, concrete mixtures, and test results. Most of the fly ashes studied indicated a potential for use in the high volume fly ash concrete system, but did not perform alike in concretes, in either the fresh or hardened condition. The conclusions drawn from the study are discussed.
