SPREADSHEET APPLICATION FOR PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE GIRDER DESIGN

A spreadsheet is described which can be used as a tool for the preliminary design of prestresssed concrete bridge girders. The required data includes load information, material properties, bridge geometry, and prestressing data. The information is processed to determine the required prestress force, tendon profile, initial and long-term stresses, ultimate moment capacity, required shear reinforcement, and centerline deflections. Details of the design procedure (flexural design, shear design, allowable stresses, deflection computation) are described. The spreadsheet can also be used to evaluate various alternative bridge designs. The template presented here allows modification of the design as the analysis of each section is completed.
