INTEGRATED DIESEL EUROPEAN ACTION - PART 2 . INTEGRATED DIESEL EUROPEAN ACTION (IDEA) 1. AUTOTECH 89 SEMINAR PAPERS

Although engineering design is traditionally based on empirical knowledge, during the last 100 years the internal combustion engine has improved with the aid of engine tests. During the last few years the knowledge is being supported by more scientific tools and should lead to a better insight and control of combustion. Modern diagnostic techniques allow quantitative detailed understanding of combustion processes and powerful computers are being used to facilitate the application of complex 3-dimensional mathematical models. An association of European car manufacturers is carrying out an extensive programme of research since 1980. The work within the IDEA (Integrated Diesel European Action) project should result in a Diesel combustion model. For the covering abstract for this volume of seminar papers see IRRD 832432.
