LONG RANGE FORECASTS OF TRANSPORTATION TRAVEL AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN NYS: 1988-2008. HISTORICAL DATA APPENDIX. TRANSPORTATION ANALYSIS REPORT

This document contains the tabular and graphical presentation of a substantial portion of the historical and selected forecast of data used in the development of the models described in the technical report. The technical report summarizes the methods used to prepare long range baseline projections of transportation travel and energy use in each of the subsectors of the transportation sector of New York State for the period 1988-2008. The analysis updates all previously prepared forecasts reported in PRR 158, 198, and TAR 41, 51, 71. The methods used to prepare these forecasts vary, but generally relate transportation travel or use to economic or demographic measures such as gross state product, income, inflation, employment, households, population and (for some items) fuel prices. Energy use is then derived from the projected modal travel or use by means of technical equations that specify energy consumption per unit of travel or use. Projection of the economic and demographic background parameters were provided by the New York State Energy Office from economic forecasts of the New York State Model prepared by the WEFA Group (Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates) during September 1988.
