PROMETHEUS. INTRMEDIATE REPORT OF THE SECOND PHASE OF THE SUBPROGRAMME PRO-ART IN THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY

PROMETHEUS. ZWISCHENBERICHT ZUR DURCHFUEHRUNGSPHASE DES TEILPROGRAMMES PRO-ART IN DER BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND

Advances in electronic information processing should be exploited by the PROMETHEUS programme in order to significantly increase the safety and efficiency of street traffic. In this context, the required basic research of knowledge-based approaches are pursued within the subprogramme PRO-ART. This intermediate report sketches a framework for interdisciplinary approaches from control theory, signal-processing, electrical engineering and communication, physics, computer science, traffic sciences and ergonomics. A survey of contributions by 15 German groups participating in PRO-ART treats control problems in autonomous driving, the evaluation of signals for this purpose, in particular video-signals, man-machine interaction and problems of representation and use of explicit knowledge.
