TRANSPORTATION AND LAND DEVELOPMENT

The goal of this book is to unite transportation and land use in a discussion of the planning and design of the circulation systems from the standpoint of site development. In transportation, the design goal is to provide for the movement of people and goods between and among land uses. In land development, the design goal is to provide for the movement of people and goods between and among land users. The underlying assumption throughout this book is that the processes of transportation and land development are inextricably bound: land development cannot occur without transportation; transportation facilities serve no economic purpose without development. The text is organized on the basis that good planning proceeds good design.
