THE SUCCESS OF THE EL MONTE-LOS ANGELES BUSWAY

The success of this Southern California rapid transit line is considered to prove that involved public agencies can come together to accomplish major transportation improvements, and that given a decent alternative choice, the public will ride public transit. The objectives and development are outlined of the 11-mile busway which cost $56 million to build. The fan-shaped bus routing system is described, and marketing goals and busway patronage aspects are noted.
