The 98 mile (158 km) Metro system will have 82 stations. There will be an off-street bus terminal at 54 of the stations with an average of six modified saw-tooth off-street bus bays at each terminal. There will be 26,000 parking spaces located at 32 stations. Forty-six stations will have kiss and ride spaces. Each of the 1,650 flow-through kiss and ride spaces will be designed so that the auto will not have to back up while picking up or discharging a passenger. Sixty-six of the stations will have rental bicycle lockers and free chain-rack type facilities for locking the frame and wheels. Access to the Washington Metro rail system is the key to its success. Parking is an integral portion of the entire access design. /CE-ASCE/
