RESEARCH ON SHIP CONTROLLABILITY PART 1: SURVEY AND LONG RANGE PROGRAM

A survey of recent developments in the field of steering and maneuvering of ships is made to provide a basis for planning a long range research program for the Maritime Administration. An attempt was made to include data from a large number of papers published in the past twenty years. A list of nearly 140 references is included at the end of the report. New facilities for controllability research are reviewed, and practices and problems of ship control discussed. Based on this survey, a five year research program is constructed.(Author)
