CONTRIBUTION TO THE MACROSTRUCTURAL THEORY OF ULTIMATE CONCRETE STRENGTH IN SIMPLE COMPRESSION

CONTRIBUTION A LA THEORIE MACROSTRUCTURALE DE LA RESISTANCE D'UN DETON A LA RUPTURE PAR COMPRESSION SIMPLE

The author outlines a hypothesis from the ultimate strength of concrete, which is based on a possible form of failure in simple compression and does not take into account wire wrapping. Three main parameters are used: resistance of aggregates to cracking, tensile strength of mortar or hardened cement paste, adhesion between aggregates and cement paste or mortar. The author takes account of structural stresses caused by the shrinkage of cement portland concrete and of the relaxation of these stresses with time. The hypothesis put forward is confirmed experimentally with results of tests carried out on concrete containing crushed aggregates from various types of rock. /TRRL/
