SIMPLE STRAIGHTENING INSTRUMENT MAKES DRILLING MORE EFFECTIVE

ENKELT RIKTINSTRUMENT GOER BORRNINGEN EFFEKTIVARE

In bench drilling correct alignment of the feed beam of the drilling rig is difficult by conventional methods. An instrument designated AGA accurator has recently been developed and promises accuracies as good as max. Deviations of 0.2%. Deviations of less than 10 mm/h have been found in tests. The instrument indicates inclination and also the direction of the plane of inclination, in relation to a fixed external reference point. Although the instrument is very ssophisticated, it has been found very robust. It is claimed that drilling rigs will gain 10% in efficiency, due to increased capacity, shorter set-up times and greater safety, as well as a reduction in overbreak. The instrument is welded directly to the feed beam near the controls. It measures 500 x 480 mm and is powered by a car battery. Its price is expected to be well below 1,000. /TRRL/
