The use of a computer in the operation of a shipyard, from the design stage to the automatic cutting of plates, is described. Other capabilities of the computer system include the generation of a wide variety of drawings, the issuance of various production instructions, and providing office calculation programs for ship design. Descriptions of the general ship hull information system and the piping installation system for tanker construction are also included in the article.
