WEAR IN DREDGERS

Wear is inevitable with hydraulic dredging. Qualitative and quantitative facts are given about wear encountered on hydraulic dredgers. Major influences on wear rate are the mean diameter of the grains, the velocity of the mixture and the material of which the pump and pipes are made. In the case of steel and iron, it is the hardness that is significant. No relation was found between mixture density and wear rate, nor between pressure and wear rate. (AUTHOR)
