PROBLEMS OF ECONOMY IN THE USE OF LIQUID FUELS FOR MOTOR TRANSPORT IN THE USSR

PROBLEMI DI ECONOMIA DEL COMBUSTIBLE LIQUIDO NEGLI AUTOTRASPORTI DELL'URSS

The soviet union has controlled the use of its energy resources for many years and was not directly affected by the recent fuel crisis. In-depth studies have identified some basic principles which enable the programming of vehicle fuel consumption, such that the consumption is minimised, and the performance and usage of the vehicles is at a maximum. The wide use of computers enables the programming of transportation so that total distances and distances travelled without load are minimised according to the type and level of activity. In addition, the rational use of energy resources is supported by legal measures which punish abuse and waste. Plans are being proposed for the extensive conversion of motor transport from petrol to diesel motors. In the USSR the cost of fuel is 10-15% of the total operating costs of motor transport. /TRRL/
