THE INFLUENCE OF BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION ON THE DYNAMIC STABILITY DURING BRAKING IN A CURVE

BROMSKRAFTFOERDELNINGENS INVERKAN PAA ETT FYRHJULIGT FORDONS KURSSTABILITET VID BROMSNING I KURVA

The investigation has been carried out at the National Swedish Road and Traffic Research Institute and earlier at the National Swedish Road Institute sponsored by the National Swedish Council on Road Safety. The purpose of the investigation was to study the influence of front/rear brake force distribution on dynamic stability during braking in a constant radius curve. The method used is theoretical simulation by means of an analogue computer. The above-mentioned influence of the brake force distribution was studied at different speeds, coefficients of friction and weight distributions. The results obtained indicate that a higher proportion of the brake force must be applied to the front wheels than is necessary according to the demand on simultaneous locking of the front and rear wheels in straight line braking, if good stability is to be maintained during braking on a road bend. /TRRL/
