The publication provides a review of weekly dry cargo chartering activities on the Baltic Exchange plus an index of dry cargo freight rates, reduced to a common denominator, for each week of the current and preceeding year for comparison purposes. Six additional tables are provided as follows: (1) Voyage and Consecutive Business by Commodity provides a ready comparison of the volume of single and consecutive voyage fixing (in terms of the number of vessels and thousands of cargo tons) in the current week against past weeks; (2) Time Chartering compares the volume of trip and period charters agreed in the current week against past weeks; (3,4,5) Loading and Delivery Positions indicates how brokers view the freight market's prospects in the short and medium term; Voyage and consecutive fixtures by the month due to load the cargo, and time charter fixtures by the delivery month to the charterers, show the extent of charterers eagerness to fix ahead; Forward fixing both in the current week and cumulatively to date are tabulated, as is the cumulative position in the same week last year; (6) Freight Rate Section is a guide to freight rate comparability between routes and cargoes, and an indication of average earning positions in terms of a 14,900 tonner.
