An exploratory study is presented dealing with the effect of two important factors of spatial abstraction, i.e. The zone system and the network model, on computer running times for all-or-nothing assignments. On the basis of statistical relationships between city size, road network size and computer time, computer time estimates are derived for nine combinations of zone systems (coarse-medium-fine) and network models (coarse-medium-fine).
