SWEDISH EXPERIMENTAL SAFETY VEHICLE PROGRAM. STEERABILITY DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING. FIELD TESTING. PERFORMANCE TESTS. TEST PROCEDURES

In order to obtain comparable results during the performance tests, a test procedure was developed, comprising three main test alternatives, viz. Braking straight ahead with locked wheels, braking straight ahead with anti-lock system, and braking in a curve with anti-lock system. When braking straight ahead, the steering wheel is kept fixed in the zero position and after declutching, the quickest possible brake application is made. Braking in a curve is done with a constant steering wheel angle corresponding to the minimum free-rolling radius for the actual parameter combination. During the tests, the brakes are fully applied and the clutch disengaged. The following parameters have been varied, viz. Maneuvers, vehicles, anti-lock systems, tyres, loading conditions, velocities, and tracks friction value. Longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, and yaw velocity are recorded on magnetic tape. See also IRRD abstracts nos. 212442, 212443, and 212440.
