ABOUT AIMS IN THE TRANSPORTATION PLANNING PROCESS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR THE QUESTION OF SPATIAL ABSTRACTION

OVER DOELSTELLINGEN IN HET VERVOERSPLANNINGPROCES EN IMPLIKATIES VOOR HET VRAAGSTUK VAN DE RUIMTELIJKE ABSTRAKTIE

The first part of this study consists of an extensive study of some common aspects of the aims of the transportation planning process. The formal content, functions, realization and relations between the aims are discussed. Some specific characteristics of the aims of the spatial transportation planning process are selected. Corresponding characteristics are derived of the so called subplanningprocess, which is the process of planning of the spatial abstraction. The second part consists a study of the implications of the question of spatial abstraction, which the specific characteristics of these aims include. Some far-reaching conclusions of the nature of the real life question can be derived. These conclusions have consequences for the relevant research. From this recommendations for the further development of the research project are made. /TRRL/
