A STUDY OF RECREATIONAL SNOWMOBILE STABILITY

The propensity for recreational snowmobiles to suffer from rollover instability has been investigated by examining the vehicle's behavior during skid-pad, serpentine and ramp test manoeuvres. That portion of the program conducted during the winter period was concerned primarily with the development of appropriate safety procedures and equipment and with preliminary observations of vehicle performance in each of the above tests. The summer program was dedicated almost solely to the ramp test and has led to the production of "stability maps" for each vehicle tested. /RTAC/
