MEASURES FOR PREVENTING SURFACE PAVEMENT FAILURES
Pavement surface can be renewed by using plasticizers. One good plasticizer is petroleum tar. The tar is poured in the spring at 15 degrees c in longitudinal strips 10 mm wide with 100 mm intervals in between. Later on, at temperature of 26 degrees c the tar is distributed uniformly by vehicle wheels. This method does not increase the slipperiness of carriageway, but it can prolong the service life of the pavement by 2-4 times. The crack propagation can be prevented by making a hole, groove, slot or a notch in front of the apex of the crack. The surface texture can be restored with ribbed rollers. After 3-4 roller runs the coefficient of friction of pavement can increase 30-40%. This method does not affect the life of pavement.
