THE PARTIAL ORDER OF TRAFFIC-CONFLICTS BY SEVERITY. DATA ANALYSIS IN REAL LIFE ENVIRONMENT: INS AND OUTS OF SOLVING PROBLEMS (ADVANCED SERIES IN MANAGEMENT 8)

This article illustrates the problems of real life data analysis using traffic conflict techniques as an example. In this example, a list of 27 traffic conflicts are presented, together with evaluations of the severity of each undertaken by ten different observers. Each traffic-conflict has assigned to it a severity profile consisting of ten values, one from each observer. The solution proposed here treats each observer as an "item" with conflict categories rated on a scale ranging from "not severe" to "severe". Using a rather strong notion of comparibility (two conflicts are comparable if they are judged in the same way by all judges) a two-dimensional representation of the conflicts is given: the vertical axis provides a collective ranking. For the covering abstract of the workshop see IRRD 825510.
