RINJNSWEERD VOLGEPARKEERD; ONDERZOEK NAAR DE MOGELIJKHEID VAN MODAL-SPLIT BEINVLOEDING BIJ WOON WERK VERKEER

A number of firms and institutions in rijnsweerd are beginning to suffer from parking and accessibility problems caused by commuter traffic. They therefore requested that a study should be undertaken to investigate the possibility of changing the transport mode used by their own workforces. A survey among this population was held at the end of June 1989. The results concerning one of the firms are presented and discussed in this paper. People were asked whether they were willing to change their mode of transport to work, under different conditions and by alternative modes of travel. Special attention was given to the differences between those groups who were certain to change their mode of travel and those who said they would most certainly not alter it. For the firm in question carpooling seems to be a good alternative. So does the so-called "spitsbus". Regular public transport is not popular. The method used to introduce and steer the new systems will have great influence on the success of the scheme. Both the firm and central government need to help commuters.(a) for the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 825702.
