THE NATURE OF SOIL EROSION. PROCEEDINGS OF A SYMPOSIUM ON SOIL EROSION AND ITS CONTROL, REGENTS COLLEGE, REGENT'S PARK, LONDON, APRIL 21, 1989
This paper reviews the mechanics of the processes involved in soil erosion by water and the factors affecting them. Sections are provided on raindrop impact, and surface run off. Equations are presented to illustrate the amount of soil dislodgement and removal by both processes. The ability of vegetation to prevent erosion by either protecting the soil surface against raindrop impact or by controlling run off is also discussed. Soil failure as a result of mass soil movement is also analysed. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 824252.
