BRIDGE ABUTMENT REINFORCED WITH SKEW TIE-BACKS. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989
A finite element method of analysis capable of estimating the three dimensional response of the skew tied-back bridge abutment has been developed based on the generalized plane strain approach. Results from this method of analysis are compared with those from truly three dimensional analysis. The comparison shows that the method is very effective and efficient. The method has also been used to identify the effect of skew angle of the tie-backs on the performance of the bridge abutment. For the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
