AN ELASTO-VISCOPLASTIC CONSTITUTIVE MODEL FOR CLAY AND FEM ANALYSIS OF THE TIME-DEPENDANT BEHAVIOUR OF CLAY DEPOSITS IN TUNNELLING. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989
This paper describes the elasto-viscoplastic finite element analysis of the deformation of soft clay deposits associated with shield tunneling. By introducing the concept of volumetric softening, the elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model is extended to describe the effect of the destructuralization of natural clay structures. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. For the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
