FINITE ELEMENT MODELING OF TUNNELLING IN JOINTED ROCKS. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989
The following paper is concerned with the development of a finite element code (non linear analysis) and its application to the modelling of tunnelling. An elastoplastic model is developed with jointed rock laminate constitutive law (with dilatancy). The paper is devoted to the problems of traction, numerical simulation of tunnelling, numerical integration and stability gauge. An example of the use of the analysis for modelling the evolution of the plastic zone in the newly built cointe tunnel is also provided. For the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
