COMPUTERIZED PLANNING OF URBAN BUS SYSTEMS. ACADEMIC CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION ON ROAD TRANSPORT, BEIJING, CHINA, 7-12 MAY 1989
VIPS, a computer package for public transport which was first demonstrated by Volvo Company of Sweden in 1974, is a simulation model estimating the behaviour of public transport passengers. The emphasis of this model is laid on the movements of people rather than those of vehicles. It is a computer model meant to be operated by transport planners rather than by computer specialists. It not only offers a broad analysis of a transport system that estimates passenger volumes, but also assesses the productivity and cost of public transport operations. 15 evaluation reports can be obtained by inputting relevant data. VIPS II has now been developed. (Author/TRRL)
