THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INCREMENTAL LAUNCHING METHOD IN PRC. ACADEMIC CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION ON ROAD TRANSPORT, BEIJING, CHINA, 7-12 MAY 1989

Since 1987 more than 10 bridges have been built in China with the incremental launching method. The technical indexes of these bridges are presented in this paper. With two reinforced concrete triangular trusses overhanging out from each side of each main pier, longer spans were launched in the construction of multi-point elastic supported continuous box girder bridges. The method of incremental launching with multipoint jacking is described, in which a pair of hydraulic jacks are installed horizontally on each pier, so the driving force is distributed. The method of launching a girder with longitudinal and vertical curve and of the installation of prestressed tendons are presented. Some suggestions in the design of the launching nose are given. Future trends in the development of the incremental launching technique in China are predicted. (Author/TRRL)
