PRODUCTION OF RUBBER BITUMEN FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION WITH PARENT SUBSTANCE PREPARED BY MIXING PROCESS. ACADEMIC CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION ON ROAD TRANSPORT, BEIJING, CHINA, 7-12 MAY 1989

Three processes are usually used to produce rubber bitumen: adding rubber directly to the heated bitumen; the emulsion process; and the intermediate parent substance process. The third method is the best one which allows the rubber to distribute very uniformly at the micro level in the bitumen. Two processes of preparing the parent substance, the dissolvent and the mixing process are described. The results of tests show that the rubber bitumen produced with the parent substance has much greater ductility, higher softening point, better adhesiveness and higher viscosity than ordinary bitumen. Furthermore, this kind of bitumen has very good aging resistance. (TRRL)
