HET DELFTSE VRACHTVERKEER: RESULTATEN VAN EEN EMPIRISCHE STUDIE

In Delft (population approximately 85000 inhabitants), an empirical study has been carried out to gain more insight into the characteristics of urban freight traffic. The aims of the study are to test the survey methods and to describe the pattern of urban freight movements. This paper first describes the applied methods, a survey amongst companies in Delft which generate freight traffic and a particular version of a mail-back survey at cordon stations to gather information of freight traffic caused by goods vehicles garaged outside Delft. The second part of the paper presents some of the first results. The freight traffic pattern in Delft is characterised in a number of ways, such as: the vehicles making trips in and through Delft; companies causing goods vehicle trips; the number of trips made; the land use at origin and destination and so on.
