THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY DETERMINING CHARACTERISTICS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT TRANSFER IN THE ROUTE-CHOICE-PROCESS . CONFERENCE PAPERS ON THE WORKING DAYS ON TRAFFIC ENGINEERING 1989

HET RELATIEVE BELANG VAN KWALITEIT-BEPALENDE KENMERKEN VAN DE OPENBAAR VERVOERVERPLAATSING IN HET ROUTEKEUZEGEDRAG

This article describes a research-project at Delft university of technology whose objective is to determine which attributes of public transport determine its quality and how effective each one is in doing so. The research focuses on the relative importance of quality determining public transport trip-time attributes in the route choice process. The relative importance of these attributes is determined by analysing route choice behaviour of individuals who said that they knew their route alternatives. A distinction is made between different categories of public transport users and trips. The relative importance of the different types of in vehicle time (bus, metro), and the different types of stops and transfers is analysed by using various model specifications. In this paper the current research project is outlined and results concerning the differences between captive and non-captive customers, the design of interchanges and the influence of different types of vehicles are presented.
