THE NEW RAILWAY FLEVOLINE . CONFERENCE PAPERS ON THE WORKING DAYS ON TRAFFIC ENGINEERING 1989
DE FLEVOLIJN
This article describes the passenger flows on the new 40 km flevoline railway, opened in 1988 by the Netherlands railway (ns). This line connects the new towns of almere and lelvstad (both with circa 60000 inhabitants) with Amsterdam at a distance of 30 and 50 km respectively. The line is heavily used by peak hour travellers for work/study, on average, each person uses the line more than four times a week. Amsterdam is the destination for most of the passengers. The majority of the ns passengers have transferred from the former bus lines. The traffic on the flevo-line is comparable with that on other busy lines in the West of the Netherlands. (TRRL)
