THE TIDAL FLOW LANE ON THE STATE HIGHWAY NO 1 BETWEEN NAARDEN AND DIEMEN . CONFERENCE PAPERS ON THE WORKING DAYS ON TRAFFIC ENGINEERING 1989

DE WISSELRIJSTROOK RIJKSWEG 1 NAARDEN-DIEMEN

This contribution describes the construction of a single track tidal flow lane with a length of 8 km and a width of 5,85 m in the centre of highway 1 between the muiderberg junction (a1/a6) and the diemen junction (a1/a9). The tidal flow lane is designed for the peak hours in traffic flow between Amsterdam (a10) and 't gooi/hengelo. The tidal flow lane is designed in such a way that it can be used as a bus and car pool lane as well. The tidal flow lane is separated from the adjacent main tracks by concrete barriers. The traffic in the tidal flow lane will be watched, controlled and protected by the motorway control and signalling system (MCSS) supported by television surveillance. (TRRL)
