ANALYSIS OF HARDENED CONCRETE: A GUIDE TO USES, PROCEDURES AND INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS. REPORT OF A JOINT CONCRETE SOCIETY AND SOCIETY OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY WORKING PARTY

The aim of this report is to assist all those concerned with the analysis of hardened concretes, mortars and screeds. It is intended to cover all current methods of analysis, including chemical analysis, determination of physical properties, microscopy, petrographic examination, x-ray techniques and thermal analysis. The importance of preliminary visual examination is also emphasised. Reference is made to the use of computers for solving the complex equations arising from some methods of analysis. Precision and accuracy are stressed throughout and a report on a co-operative precision experiment is included in appendix a. Most of the methods recommended are fully described in British standard or other specifications and step-by-step details are not given in this document. Examples of calculations and the adjustments needed are given in appendix C.
