THE AST, ALT AND GAMMA GT VALUES AS LABORATORY PARAMETERS FOR DETECTING BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT IN MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVERS

VRIJEDNOSTI AST, ALT I GAMA GT KAO LABORATORIJSKI PARAMETRI ZA UTVRDJIVANJE ALKOHOLIZMA KOD VOZACA MOTORNIH VOZILA

Three groups of motor vehicle drivers, under 25 years, over 65 years, and a randomly chosen control group, each comprising 100 drivers, were studied. The sgot, sgpt and gamma gt values tests were used. Results show that changes occur in older drivers more often than in younger drivers or in the control group which is probably the result of a longer period of regular alcohol consumption. It was ascertained that the highest incidence of changes occurred in the activity of gamma gt, while the activity of sgot disclosed fewer irregularities, and sgt the least. The results give rise to doubts as to whether the officially registered number of alcohol impaired drivers is correct.
