MIX DESIGN FOR OPTIMAL STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT OF FLY ASH CONCRETE

Mix design of fly ash concrete was attempted by three methods to find the influence of design method on the strength development. The conventional addition replacement method was compared with two other techniques by monitoring the compressive strength at 7, 28 and 91 days. The results suggest that the amount of fly ash required for developing higher strength depended on the grade of the concrete; the amount of fly ash required progressively decreased as the strength of the concrete increased. Generally the concrete with a lower amount of fly ash than the weight of the cement it replaced is found to develop higher strength. Under inadequate curing conditions, the concrete with a lower fly ash content gave higher strength.(a)
