DYNAMIC INTERACTION OF RAILWAY SYSTEMS WITH LARGE BRIDGES

The article considers an analytical approach to evaluating the dynamic behaviour of large span bridges carrying running railway loads. Two aspects covered are: (a) an analysis of structural safety by an evaluation of bridge motion and stress distribution; and, (b) an analysis of running safety and passenger comfort. In addition the environmental problem of bridge and running train noise is considered. The analytical approach has been found effective due to refinement of mathematical models used to simulate and characterise bridge structures, train configurations and contact forces between wheel and track.
