MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF SNOW PLOUGHS

VEDLIKEHOLD OG UTVIKLING AV SNOEPLOGER

Developments to year 2000 will impose stringent demands regarding the design, working range and usability of snow ploughs. Particular attention is drawn to the following. Large cost items are attributable to faulty design, wrong use, lack of standardisation, substandard finish (corrosion), traffic damage, unsatisfactory contracts with private snow clearance contractors. Drivers must be given better training regarding traffic safety, attachment of blade to vehicle, alignment of blade, type of plough, contractual liabilities and duties, significance of wear parts of good quality. The increase in traffic means that snow must be cleared at times when volume of other traffic is high, and this necessitates changes in clearance routines, information for road uers, work of better quality, facilities for combination with other equipment. The following must be standardised, or existing standards improved: wear steel-hole spacing, thickness etc; other types of blade; attachment of blade etc; attachment to plough hydraulic equipment on vehicles; rapid couplings. It is considered that imrpovements must chiefly be made regarding materials of better quality, evaluation of other materials (plastics, rubber etc), standardisation and improvement of wear parts, planning and coordination of snow clearance, repair-friendly or throw-away parts, standardised hydraulic control systems on clearance vehicles.
