A MODEL FOR THE CALCULATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY TRAFFIC FLOWS IN URBAN AREAS

VAN VERKEERSMILIEUKAART NAAR MILIEU-GUNSTIGE VERKEERSPATRONEN

The environmental impact of traffic flows in urban networks is an increasingly growing problem. This study investigates the possibilities for modifying traffic route choice in urban networks in order to meet the standards for noise annoyance and pollutant emission. Therefore an environmental capacity is defined, for each link of the network. This is the minimum capacity of a link resulting from the selected environmental standards. The maximum flow on a link is defined by the minimum of the environmental capacity and the free flow capacity. By assigning the traffic to the network using the equilibrium assignment technique, an optimum flow pattern is obtained which meets (as far as possible) the environmental standards. In this paper the results of an application of the model are presented using the ede/bennekom network.(a) for the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 824432.
